Classic Monsters To Battle In New Movie or "Get Ready For The REAL Monster Mash"
"Monster Brawl" is an upcoming movie with this simple premise: "Dracula, Frankenstein, and other classic monsters fight each other, WWE-style." The film, which combines my favorite childhood monsters with the plot of "Destroy All Monsters", will also feature wrestling icons Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart and Kevin Nash and actor/badass Lance freaking Henriksen!
I can think of only one thing to say in regards to this movie;
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!

Custom "Steampunk" Optimus Prime or "A Truly 'Old School' Transformer"
The continuing trend of custom Transformers, like Omega Supreme and Extinction, the Dinobot Combiner, has spawned this 'steampunk' Optimus Prime. Created by Encline Designs, it posits the question 'what if the Transformers landed before the automobile came on the scene'? They really did a lot of work on this piece. This figure is fully transformable, the lamps/chestpiece light up and the figure was given a unique paint job that gives Optimus a 'rusted' quality!
This figure just awesome. If this were a perfect world, I would own this figure! Unfortunately, I live in a world where I can only find endless amounts of Skids and Mudflap figures from 'Revenge of the Fallen'.

Video of the Day: "Atomic Robo" Teaser Trailer
"Atomic Robo: Last Stop" is an upcoming animated film based on the comic book of the same name. The comic (and presumably the film) chronicle the adventures of Atomic Robo, a creation of Nikola Tesla, and his team of action scientists from Tesladyne Industries as they handle all sorts of scientific mysteries around the world, from giant ants to walking pyramids to cyborg Nazi criminals! So, Atomic Robo is basically Hellboy for the scientific world! Check it out!

The Greatest Thrill In PC Gaming or "What Is Best In Life?"
"BOOM! Headshot."
These two words sum up why I love playing first-person-shooters on the PC and my Xbox. Enjoy your RPGs. Drive it like you stole it with your racing games. Nothing holds the same sheer thrill of putting your opponent in your rifle sight and letting fly.
This week on Kotaku, one of the best sites I've found for cool gaming news, they are celebrating "Gunweek", a celebration of all things related to the boomstick. One of the feature articles is "The History of Headshots", which details the history and popularity of this hallmark of games such as Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and my personal favorite, Unreal Tournament!! Oh yeah!
If you have ever gotten rid of a workday's stress by loading your favorite shooter and 'pwning some noobs', you owe it to yourself to check this article out.
Gotta' go now. I hear HALO 2 calling me name. Lock 'n' Load!!

A Geek's Coffee House or "I Like My Coffee With A 1.21 Gigawatt Kick!"
It's not very often that I find myself saying "I need a vacation" and actually mean it. But where in the world would I want to go? Aside from heading to a tropical island or visiting Marvel Comics in NYC, it's hard for me to pick a place. But I think "The Wormhole", a coffee shop in Chicago, Illinois (Da' Bears!), makes a strong case for the Windy City.
This place is a geek's paradise, filled with posters and memorabilia from classic '80s movies, like "Ghostbusters" and "Back to the Future". The walls are absolutely covered with geeky things, from Star Wars action figures to classic movies posters and vintage '80s stereo equipment. And they have espresso covered breakfast cereal.
I better start saving my allowance. Who's coming with me?

Tim Burton & Friends To Make New 'Addams Family' or "They're Back!"
Tim Burton, the man behind "The Nightmare before Christmas", is re-teaming with the writers of the Johnny Depp movie, "Ed Wood", to produce a new film based on -- Da Da Da Da, Snap Snap -- "The Addams Family"!
Burton's take will focus more on the slightly more macabre humor and dark themes of the original comic strips that ran in the "New Yorker" magazine from 1938 until artist Charles Addams' death in 1988, rather than the '60s TV series and the '90s film adaptation. The main thing with this new film is that it is going to be done in stop-motion animation, a style of animation that Tim Burton is very fond of. One of his first projects in this format was "Vincent", a short film about a delusional young boy, obsessed with the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Click here if you want to check it out!
I have to say I am really looking forward to this film! I am a fan of Burton's dark film style and his work on "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "Beetlejuice" and "Batman '89" are among some of my favorite movies. But who ever voices Gomez in the new film will have to follow in the footsteps of John Astin and Raul Julia. These two men really brought a lot of passion and charisma to the character of Gomez Addams, who is my favorite member of the Addams Family! Yes, even more than Uncle Fester!
Unfortunately, there will be a bit of a wait for the film. Due to the lengthy filming process of stop-motion animation, "The Addams Family" will not be hitting the screen until sometime in 2014. I sure hope it's worth the wait!
And now, for a little something we're all thinking about.....

Brandon Routh Stars In New Comic Movie or "Superman VS The Undead"
"Dylan Dog" is a new film based on one of the most popular comics over in Europe. It stars Brandon Routh as a paranormal investigator trying to maintain the balance between humans and the creatures of the night in New Orleans.
Looks pretty good, all things considered. It looks schlocky as all hell, what with the standard "vampires want to rise up and dominate humanity" storyline and the zombie sidekick. But it looks like it could be a lot of fun, in a 1980's kind of way!

Company Creates 'Monster Truck' Golf Cart or "A Manly Golf Cart For A Manly Man"
Golf. It's a gentleman's game. Played by men of wealth and leisure. It's a game of contemplation. Of using all your faculties to land that ball right on the green. And it is SO bloody boring!! Like Robin Williams said, it's all "Hit the ball, get in the cart. Hit the ball, get in the cart."
Why not make the sport a little more enticing for the average guy? How would you do that? Why not get your own tricked out golf cart?! This thing is so 'pimp' that I actually want to re-learn how to play golf so I could tool around the local golf course! Can you not imagine tearing ass across the green in this thing, playing golf in a very polo-style manner?! The local golf course probably wouldn't allow it, but Hell, a guy can dream!

Confusing Comic Histories Explained or "Why Are There, Like, 8 Different Aquamen?"
Comic news website, 'Comics Alliance', and the guys behind the webcomic, "Let's Be Friends Again", come together every other week and do a great service for the comic book community. They explain the convoluted and nigh-unexplainable histories of some of comic's most screwed up characters (editorially-speaking, of course).
If you have ever read a comic and wondered why there are a mollion different versions of one guy (Hawkman) or how a hero can have a daughter from an alternate future (Cyclops' daughter, Rachel Summers/Marvel Girl), you should do yourself a favor and check out "Comics, Everybody". It is seriously cool and funny and educational.... in a nerdy kinda' way!

Man Looking For The Right Roommate or "No Room For iPhone"
Hahahaha! Some dude is moving to the Big Apple and wants a roommate to split the cost of living in the 'City That Never Sleeps'. Sensible plan, considering how much I have heard apartments cost there. But the guy has just one proviso, just a little point of interest: He hates iPhones! So much so, he says in his ad that anyone who uses an iPhone or iPad are out of the running. O-U-T, out! Don't even think about it. BUT, if you play Starcraft 2, you're A-OK in his book.
It's like: "What's that? You have great references, you work with disabled kids and you like playing 'Wings of Liberty'? Awesome! But you use an iPhone?! GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN!"
Good luck finding a roommate, pal! With an attitude like that, I wouldn't be surprised if your new roommate has a problem with you sucking up all the fun out of the room. But maybe he'll know how to remove that 2x4 you have lodged in a very uncomfortable place. Just saying.

Jon Stewart Gets His Own Action Figure or "The Funniest Stormtrooper Alive"
Oh.... My.... GOD!! Jon Stewart now has his own personal 'Star Wars' action figure. Stewart appeared at the Star Wars Celebration V convention this year. Not only did the funniest man on TV get his smirk immortalized in plastic, it was presented to him by the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, George Lucas.
Jon Stewart, I salute you!

Nerdiest Birthday Cake .... EVER or "Eat It? I Don't Want To Ruin It!"
Words cannot express how awesome this cake is! Aurora Cakes, a custom cake shop over in the UK, created this cake for some loving parents who wanted to make their son laugh on his special day. It takes a true artist to craft something involving a birthday cake, Star Wars and poop jokes that isn't completely batsh*t crazy! I'm pretty sure the young lad laughed his butt right out of his char. I know I would.
And it seems that Stormtroopers are apparently big fans of 'Top Gear' magazine! Who knew?!

Archie Comics To Parody 'Twilight' or "Team Archie or Team Reggie"
First, Archie Comics explored the potential of the red-headed klutz marrying Betty and Veronica (in separate, alternate futures). Soon, they will take aim at MTV's "Jersey Shore" (with Reggie filling the role of "The Situation"). But following that, in 'Archie & Friends #146', the phenomenon that is 'Twilight' will be appearing in the pages of one of the comic industry's longest running and most successful series.
While I'm not really loving the idea of Archie parodying 'Twilight', it is to be expected. There is quite a long history of the company parodying pop culutre, from the TV spoofs in the classic "Archie's TV Laugh Out" to the many movie parodies throughout the years. One of my favorites was "The Man from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.LE.", a long running series of stories that spoof of the classic "Man from U.N.C.L.E." TV series and the James Bond movies.
The 4-part story, "Twilite", will feature:
-- two new students joining Archie and the gang at Riverdale High. One is a vampire.. You can guess what the other guy is.
-- they will be engaged in a long standing feud of some sort. But seeing as how it's Archie Comics, it will amount to immature pranks of maximum embarassment potential.
-- Betty & Veronica will fight over them before realizing they are friends and they shouldn't let these two ruin their friendship.... exactly ten seconds before they start fighting over Archie again.
That last one was my own idea, but after having ready more than 20+ years of Archie comic books, can I really be that far off?

Hi Tech Vending Machine With A Touch Screen or "You Can Look AND Touch"
The Japanese are known for a lot of things. Genre bending anime and manga. Creepy and truly scary 'horror' movies. And stunning technological innovations, like a new vending machine with a touch-screen selector called the aCure. Currently set up in Shinagawa Station, one of the busiest train stations in Japan, and serving some tasty cold beverages, the aCure is already drawing a huge following.
Hmmm, a flashy touch-screen computer thingy that serves cold drinks? I only know about ....oh, I don't know .... a few hundred geeks, nerds and assorted technophiles that would love to get their Cheetos dust covered hands on this, if only to 'jailbreak' it and incorporate this into their fridge.

New Abraham Lincoln Horror Movie Has A Director or "Vampires & Politics Don't Mix"
If you haven't gotten a hold of it already, you should read "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" by Seth Grahame-Smith. The book is the latest in a popular new writing genre called 'revisionist-horror', where literary works are re-written to include classic horror creatures, like "Pride and Predhudice and Zombies", for example. The book is so popular right now, it has already being turned into a major motion picture. Tim Burton will be producing and Timur Bekmambetov, who directed the 2008 film "Wanted" based on the comic book of the same name, will be directing the adaptation. Bekmambetov has said he wants to do this as much of a straight historical movie as possible, just with vampires in the mix.
The 'grindhouse' mash-up of one of history's greatest men and one of my all-time favorite monsters already has me hooked. I mean, just read the description of the plot from the book jacket:
Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother’s bedside. She’s been stricken with something the old-timers call “Milk Sickness.”
“My baby boy…” she whispers before dying.
Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother’s fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.
When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, “henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose…” Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.
While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.
Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.
So, according to this synopsis, the 16th President of the USA was not only one of the most important men in history AND a vampire hunter, he has the same motivation.origin as Batman, what with the loss of family and the lifelong dedication to physical and intellectual development.
Who wouldn't vote for this guy?!

The Beer Bandolier or "A 12 Pack of Action"
This is, quite possibly, the coolest piece of mens wear I have ever seen! "The Hops Holster 12 Can Ammo Pack", available on LikeCool.com for only $30, will ensure that you never go thirsty during slo-pitch tourneys, grad ceremonies, wrestling Pay Per View's or any other social/family engagement where getting hammered is preferable to talking to your in-laws!
Action movie heroes can keep their bandoliers of shotgun shells. THIS is the kind of ammo I want to carry around to defeat the forces of evil. I mean, why fight when you can crack open a frosty cold one and talk things out?!

First Details About New 'Torchwood' or "Jack Is Back"
Oh, this is the sort of thing makes me wanna' do the Happy Dance! The first few details about the next 'Torchwood' series have been released. Aside from being produced by the cable channel, Starz!, we also know that:
-- The new series is titled "Torchwood: The New World"
-- It will be set a few years after the previous Torchwood series, "Children of Earth", in a world where Torchwood is only talked about in whispers and thought to be only a legend.
-- The new series will featured two new characters, a CIA agent and a CIA analyst, who come across some presumably alien-based information that sends them running for their lives. The two American agents end up teaming with Gwen Cooper and Capt. Jack Harkness in order to deal with this new threat.
-- This series IS a reboot. Executive producer Julie Gardner and creator Russell T. Davies want to bring in a new audience.
I've said it before. I'm going to say it again. I, as well as the millions of 'Torchwood' faithful eagerly awaiting this next chapter, simply CANNOT wait for this to debut next summer!
Much thanks to my pal, kleedrac, for the heads up!

The "Blue Beetle" TV Series Demo Trailer or "The Suit Makes The Man!"
Seeing as how 'Smallville' will be ending it's long run after this next season, it should come as no surprise that The CW execs are looking for a new comic book-centric TV series to keep their ratings up. One of the proposed comic book adaptations is the Geoff Johns penned 'Beetle' series, which featured Jaime (pronounced 'hi-may') Reyes as the third man to call himself the Blue Beetle.
The trailer, done as a 'proof-of-concept' piece like the 'Mortal Kombat - REBIRTH' short, was made under very strict conditions and was directed by Alex Winter, who also directed the two live-action 'Ben 10' films, "Ben 10 - Race Against Time" and "Ben 10 - Alien Swarm". If the name sounds familiar, it's because he also played "Bill S. Preston, Esquire" in the 'Bill & Ted' movies!
Judging by the trailer, I'd say the chances of this series actually happening would be ..... EXCELLENT!
Time for an air-guitar solo!

The 501st TK Project is a "Star Wars" themed charity event, where fans are invited to create unique Stormtrooper helmets which will be auctioned off to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Of the many entrants, artist Nicole Falk created this "Ghostbusters" inspired helmet.
Apparently, when not sliming Dr. Peter Venkman, Slimer (aka "The Onion Headed Ghost") works for Emperor Palpatine. Not sure what he does. Maybe it involves food testing? Scaring Stormtroopers? Trying to get Lord Vader to laugh?

Scientists Develop New Healing Technology Or "Hey, Who Wants An Artificial Healing Factor?"
Scientists at the University of Columbia have created a new process, where they can implant special 'scaffolding' into a damaged limb to aid in healing. This scaffolding is coated in a special growth protein to aid the body's natural recovery process.
Know what this means? This means as soon as it's been refined and is working properly, I am going to be able to get my very own version of Wolverine's healing factor.
Pardon me. Time for another Kool Aid moment!

New Cop Show To Mix Horror Movie Genres or "Zombie Cops & Vampires, Not Cops And Robbers"
With the proliferation of dramatic vampire shows ("The Gates", "True Blood", "The Vampire Diaries") currently on TV, it looks like at least one network thinks the subject is a little played out and needs something new. Something fresh. Well, maybe not so fresh. Something that's risen from the dead.
NBC is looking at producing a new cop procedural show tentatively called "Zombies vs Vampires". The show centers around a world where zombies exist and are policed by a special police squad. And one of the cops is secretly a vampire, a fact he hides from his human partner.
Vampire shows haven't been the same since "Buffy" and "Angel" went off the air, but this one shows a lot of potential. Here's hoping that it doesn't .... suck.
Yes. I did go for the obligatory 'vampire' pun.

Marvel Comics To Publish New 'Thunderstrike' Title or "The '90s Are Coming Back!"
An eagle-eyed fan spotted this news at the New York Comic Con: Marvel Comics is bringing back the character "Thunderstrike", a man named Eric Masterson that once filled in for the Mighty Thor back in the day, in a new limited series. Seeing as 'Batman Beyond' has finally been retconned (or is it future-conned?) into the DC Comics continuity and the recent 'Spider-man: Clone Wars" mini series, this is not all that surprising. But what about "Darkhawk"?
I want my new "Darkhawk" series, mofo's!!

'Plants Vs Zombies' Almost Sued By Jackson Estate or "Do The Zombie Hustle!"
Have you ever heard or played ''Plants vs Zombies''? If you have, you know it is one the most addictive games to come out of Pop Cap Games in the last long while. It's full of imaginative zombie types, not the least of which is the Moonwalker Zombie, a 'Michael Jackson-esque' zombie that summons a squad of back-up dancer zombies to attack en masse.
Well, the estate of Michael Jackson (read, 'Poppa Joe Jackson') didn't like this and instigated proceedings to sue Pop Cap Games for defamation. Cleverly side-stepping the lawsuit, Pop Cap decided to remove the MJ zombie and replace it with this, the new, improved 'Moonwalker Zombie'!
What kind of bothers me isn't that Pop Cap decided to take an appropriate course of action to avoid a potentially damaging lawsuit. It's that the Jackson estate decided that this kind of thing was entirely necessary. I know there is some sort of legal precedent for this, 'defamation of character' or the likeness of the Gloved on in "Thriller" being copyrighted and what not.
The original Moonwalker Zombie was, at best, a loving homage to one of the most innovative music videos of the 1980s. I mean, if people who do parodies of such things can be sued, MAD Magazine better watch out!
