Pictured here in a graffiti mural is a Metroid alien from the long running 'Metroid' game series. It's a creepy lil' bugger that will suck the life-force out of you just as soon as it would offer you a cup of coffee.
Now this here is a new species of jellyfish that was recently discovered living at 4000 feet below the Pacific Ocean. Dubbed 'Tiburonia granrojo', this new breed of jelly does not have tentacles. NO, no, no. This freaky sucker has 4 - 7 arms!
Anyone else see a family resemblance between these two suckers?! Does this mean we'll see Goombas and Koopa Troopas discovered next? How about a 'Pokemon'?

Man Creates 'Driveable' R2-D2 or "So Much Cooler Than A Seqway"
Any person, be they man or woman, who is capable of such an engineering feat, is surely worthy of praise. The Youtube user known as dmalford1 created this XXXXXXL-sized R2 unit using a plastic barrel, some mechanical skill and a lot of love for that plucky little astro-mech droid that puts up with all of C-3PO's incessant whining.
Seriously, if R2-D2 was THIS big, C-3PO would never bitch again!

Video of the Day: The Nostalgia Critic - "Batman & Robin" Review
The Nostalgia Critic is a video series, created by and starring Doug Walker, about an easily annoyed movie critic who reviews bad movies from the '80s and '90s. I love watching these vids because they are both 'fall out of your chair' funny and amazingly well crafted. The best of them has to be the "Batman & Robin" review. Check it out!

What Really Lies At The End Of The Rainbow or "God Loves Beer"
Ben Franklin once said: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Amen. I think ole' Ben Franklin was on to something there. Well told, sir!

'ALIEN' Themed Birthday Cake or "Creepiest....Cake...EVER!!"
This is the single most disturbing thing I have seen in a while. But the nerd in me wants to high five Jeff Ross, the man who created this tribute to one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever.
Awesome and nerdy, but disturbing all the same!

Russia Building 'Floating' Nuclear Power Plants or "Santa Is Going To Have Neighbors"
The government of Russia is constructing several floating nuclear power stations to aid in their push to take over nearly one-half of the North Pole. The stations will be providing power for research stations and gas/oil exploration.
You have to realize that this is all pretense, of course. The Russians are really searching for Santa's workshop and the secret of his ability to travel around the world in one night.
Why else would they want to take over HALF the freaking North Pole?!

Make Albert Einstein Speak or "Dance, Monkey, Dance!!"
Found this while trolling the Interwebs yesterday. You enter what ever text you want into this box and click the 'preview image' button. And you can make the 'father of modern physics' say whatever you damn well please!
You could spend an hour making Einstein say ever bad one liner Arnold said in "Batman and Robin". Or make him write out "I will not make of Hitler's mustache" a hundred times. Or what ever your fevered little imagination can cook up.
Click here to try it. It's fun, trust me! Now, you'll have to excuse me. I'm going to make Einstein quote 'Star Wars' again.

Scientists Discover The 'Dumb' Gene or "There's A Reason Why I Suck At Math"
Scientists at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia have discovered RGS14, a gene located in the hippocampus area of the brain, that they believe controls the capacity to learn and form new memories. Putting this discovery to the test, they disabled the gene in some lab mice and ran them through a maze. Mice with the disabled gene were able to run the maze in a better time than regular mice.
Do you realize what this means??
They have discovered what causes stupidity. There is an actual, scientific basis for not being able to understand languages, solve complex math problems, and so on and so forth.
Obviously, this sort of thing needs to be researched properly before any attempt is made to produce a pill or serum or any sort of gene therapy that will turn off RGS14 and allow the brain to grow smarter and not turn a human being into a drooling moron.
Sadly, this will still not allow men to understand women.

'80s Megatron vs Movie Megatron or "Nothing Beats Old School"
Searching for some new computer wallpaper the other day yielded this little gem. And it exactly mirrors how I feel about Michael Bay's 'Megatron'. Click here if you want to see my little tweak to it.

Keanu Reeves Is Up For 'Bill & Ted 3' or "Wyld Stallyns May Rock Again"
In a recent interview with MTV, Keanu Reeves was asked if he would be interested in re-uniting with Alex Winter to make a third 'Bill & Ted' movie.
He said yes.
That's right! Years later, Keanu still wants to go back to the world of time-travelling phone booths, air guitars and being excellent to each other! It may or may not happen (according to the interview), but HOT DAMN, this is exciting news.
But, I am going to have to temper my enthusiasm with some reality. However awesome a third entry into one of my all-time favorite film series would be, it will be missing one essential element, the magic that is George Carlin.
Hey, if it wasn't for Mr. Carlin travelling back in time to help out Bill & Ted, we wouldn't be talking about this, would we?!

Lego/Star Wars Inspired Chess Set or "Force Lightning Won't Help Here!"
Lego & Star Wars fan Brandon Griffith created this 'Empire Strikes Back' themed chess set. I like chess. I really do. And this chess set makes me want to start playing again. But this set wouldn't help my game at all.
My buddy, Kleedrac, would still kick my ass in about 10 minutes!

Science Creates Skin For Robots or "Feelings! Nothing More Than Feelings!"
After the reports of researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology teaching robots how to deceive each other (they making Decepticons, people!), we get this piece of tech news!
Scientists at UC Berkeley have succeeded in creating a touch-sensitive 'skin', made from semi-conducting nano-wires (!), that can be used to 'teach' our future robotic overlords how to shake our flimsy human hands without breaking them.
Sarcasm aside, this technology is a HUGE step forward in creating artificial skin for burn vicitims. Which is a good thing. But we are now one step closer to the future that is Skynet and that's a bad thing!

Super Mario Bros. Is 25 Years Old Today or "It'sa Me, Mario!"
September 13th is a day that will forever be a day that geeks, fanboys and general nerdy types will stand up and tip their collective hats to a true video gaming icon. It was on that day, back in the year 1985, that the one of the crown jewels of video gaming debuted in his first game.
He's short. He's a plumber. He speaks with a bad, stereo-typical Italian accent.
The "Super Mario" series of games on the NES were, and still are, some of the best games I have ever had the good fortune to play! My brothers and I were fans of all the "Super Mario Bros." games, with "Super Mario Bros. 3" being our favorite, as I recall.
The "Mario" series was always one that I could count on to be fun, entertaining and just plain awesome to play. Never before had there been a character that spanned so many genres of video gaming and still retained the fun inherent in his original game. From the NES to the Game Cube to the Wii. From "Super marios Bros. 3" to "Super Mario Kart" to "Mario Party". Mario rocked the freakin' casbah, with his simple but addictive game play and a mustache that even Tom Selleck must be envious of!!!
I salute you, Mario! Hail to the King of Games! Long may he reign!!

Video of the Day: "Least I Could Do" Animated Series Intro
"Least I Could Do" is a long running webcomic series created by Ryan Sohmer of Montreal, Quebec. It chronicles the mis-adventures of the narcissistic and eternally immature Rayne Summers and his friends as they careen from one crazy situation to another, usually caused by Rayne himself. Sohmer created this video as a 'proof of concept' for a potential animated series.
I've been reading the comic strip for a few years now and all I can ask is "How is this NOT a TV series already?!"
Kid Lands Double Back-flip.... In A Wheelchair or "You Will Believe A Man Can Fly"
Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham is an 18 year old guy from Las Vegas, Nevada who works with disabled children, trying to get them to see their crutches or wheelchairs are not traps, but toys. He travels all over the U.S. talking to kids with physical disabilities and teach them how to handle themselves in the world. How does he get this across to these kids? He is a wheelchair himself! Aaron was born with spina bifida, which is a birth defect where a person's spine does not fully form during the initial month of a baby's development.
But this physical limitation has not stopped him from fully enjoying life. Not only is he incredibly active, he can pull a double back-flip with his wheelchair! You may want to call 'shenanigans', but watch this video before you do.
That was just EPIC! If he can do stuff like that, it's proof positive that anything is possible if you believe! How can you NOT be inspired by this?!

Coolest Game Controller Ever or "The Doctor Is A Gamer"
Towards the end of this year, when I write my Christmas list, I will be putting down three things: a Nintendo Wii, a copy of the Wii game "Doctor Who: Return to Earth" and a Sonic Screwdriver Wii-mote.
Why?
Because this is, bar none, the single coolest video game set-up I have ever seen.
Besides being one of the most interesting and continually satisfying sci-fi shows around, "Doctor Who" is a property that practically screams 'video game'! The sheer number of alien worlds, the Doctor's companions and the plethora of his enemies would translate very well into game levels, playable characters and enemy soldiers/level bosses.
So, until there is a gameplay trailer, I am going to withhold judgement as to whether or not the game will rock or not.
Seriously though, how could it not?

'Duke Nukem Forever' Release Announced or "When Pigs Fly... After Hell Freezes Over"
The annual Penny Arcade Expor (PAX) just closed down and, as usual, there were a few notable announcements regrading some upcoming games. But one game in particular caused more ruckus, more chatter and more nerd headaches than any other. For what seems like the umpteenth time, 'Duke Nukem Forever' is set to be released some time next year.
And now, my thoughts on this stunning revelation.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *deep breath* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I loved playing all the previous games in the 'Duke Nukem' franchise and was eagerly awaiting the release of 'Forever' ... before the constant delays and pushing back of the release date ground my expectations of enjoying the new game down to nothing. I gave up on this game a LONG time ago! And that's saying something, considering I'm still waiting for the third issue of the comic "Wildsiderz" to come out, which is about 5 years late!
If, IF, not when, this game is EVER released, the sky will most assuredly be filled with swine that have miraculously grown wings. Or frogs falling from the sky. Either or.

A Bunch of Geeks Talking About Cartoons or "My First Podcast!"
Let it never be said that being passionate (even obsessively so) about the things you love never pays off! Not too long ago, I 'friended' a fellow by the name of Mike Blanchard on Facebook. Mike is the one of the main driving forces behind "The Geekcast Radio Network", a stable of podcasts that discuss almost all things geeky. "Tooncast" is one of the many shows on this site I listen to, wherein Mike and assorted co-hosts discuss one cartoon series every episode. Anything from the heyday of Looney Tunes in the '40s and Hanna Barbera in the '60s, to the last dismal days of Saturday Morning 'toons in 1999 are fair game.
Well, recently Mike was looking for co-hosts for the 'Johnny Bravo' episode. Myself and another podcaster, Glade Packer, geeks that we are, volunteered to co-host. I have to say, I had a lot of fun recording and liked my first taste of podcasting. Makes a guy want to do something similar. Hhmm?!
Do we think 'Johnny Bravo' is a cartoon worth watching or does it need to be buried in a deep, dark hole? You'll have to tune in, download the show and listen for yourselves!
Tooncast Ep. #69 - Johnny Bravo
