Trust Him, He Knows What He's Doing!

In addition to the two series of "Sherlock" the BBC has graced us with over the last couple of years, they also gave us "JEKYLL", one of the best adaptations/ re-makes of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel. Maybe now I can finally forget I ever watched "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde".

Don't you judge me! Sean Young was HAWT back in the day!

I won't waste words trying to describe how incredibly awesome & balls-to-the-wall crazy the show is. Just watch these 3 clips & realize that nothing this bad-ass could ever be made on this side of the Atlantic before you head off into the wilds of the Interwebs to find and watch this gleefully insane 6 epsiode series!!

Goddamn, but James Nesbitt is the man!!

The Future of Law Enforcement Needs Some Work...

Today saw the release of some behind the scenes photos of the in-production remake of the Paul Verhoeven '80s classic "RoboCop", one of which you can see below....

I am not against the remake. Despite whether or not they still stand up (and you can be sure 'RoboCop' does), there are some films from my youth that I really wouldn't mind seeing remade. However, I repeat HOWEVER, is it so hard to try and be original with the new Robo's armor?! I mean, look at this POS! They slapped a barely tweaked Robo-helmetvisor on this dude wearing what looks like a left over Bat-suit from "The Dark Knight". EFFORT, Hollywood, you should try applying some!!

You know, I wonder what the original RoboCop thinks about this.....

Video of the Day: "Go Go, Super Sentai!"

From the climax of the 35th Super Sentai anniversary movie "Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle" , where every Super Sentai to date summons their respective mecha and puts their massively over-sized boots to monster ass in order to save the world one more time!!!

I can only imagine the fight started somewhat like this.....

"What If..... Pee-Wee Herman Was Batman?!"

Just imagine if Pee-Wee Herman was Batman. Would that not represent the most epic collaboration of all time? Wonder if the 'secret word of the day' would be 'batarang'?

Photobucket

          Yep. Sure is.

Video of the Day: "Your Entrance Was Good. His Was Better!"

Yeah, yeah, I know. The San Diego Comic Con is over. Done. Finito. But I just keep finding videos from the event that are just so damn awesome. Take for example this video from the 'Iron Man 3' panel in Hall H. Not only did Tony Stark .... I mean, RDJ show up, he SHOWED UP! Dude comes dancing in to the tunes of of some old school Luther Vandross and gets up on stage and has the crowd completely eating out of his hand in less than 3 minutes.

Dude has swagger on an epic level. Just saying.

"He Doesn't Have The Power, He IS the Power!!"

"Castle Grayskull-man hungers for your pay check! Also, your soul."

As with any other self-respecting child of the'80s, I love He-man toys! One of my greatest regrets in life is not hoarding my "Master of the Universe" toys like Smiegel did the One Ring. Suffice to say, of all the awesome toys (like that SDCC exclusive Fall of Cybertron Bruticus) that were shown at SDCC this past weekend, the new line up of MotU toys had me wishing I didn't ruin my credit rating all those years ago. Credit cards are the Devil's playthings, after all. Poe Ghostal has a nice article, including pictures, of all the new merch from the line.  If you count yourself among the 'MotU' faithful, you should check it out!

I'd sure love to buy these (and teh rest of the line) if I could afford such extravagance. Unfortunately, I can't and I'd have to buy these toys online. I don't trust the Internet but for just two things: the ability to download long forgotten cartoon shows from my youth and boobies! There's a lot of them out. Cartoons, that is.

Video of the Day: "Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't"

In one of the best "Star Trek - DS9" episodes, "In the Pale Moonlight", Cpt. Benjamin Sisko ends the episode with one of the best monologues I've ever heard! The way Avery Brooks goes from indecisive to mournful to rage-filled and finally accepting of the situation is nothing short of astounding. Well played, sir!

"Who He Is & How He Came To Be"

Amongst the many, many things I love with an unholy passion (among which I count my love of shitty sci-fi movies from the Asylum & badly dubbed toy commercial/anime cartoons) is nerdcore rap & hip-hop. And foremost in that playlist is Adam WarRock (former lawyer-turned-nerdcore rapper Eugene Ahn). Though I have been listening to his awesome work for awhile now, I haven't been able to find out a lot about how he got his start and where he draws his influences from. Then, I stumbled upon this interview video on YouTube where WarRock is being interviewed by Nerd Caliber, an online nerd culture website. He talks about how he got his start (both as a rapper and a nerd) and you even get to see him perform a couple of tracks live at a Boston area comic store.

The Secret Origin of Adam Warrock!

Seems like a really cool dude! If (and that may be a HUGE if) he ever tours through the Great White North, I highly recommend you go to the show. I'll see you there!

"A Young Fanboy's Dream Cross-over"

There are not enough words to convey how @%$#-ing awesome this image is! Galvatron, the 'nuttier than a squirrel's turd' leader of the Decepticons, leading an assault against Godzilla, the 'King of the Monsters, who is backed up by fellow 'kaiju' Rodan and the freakin' Dino-Bots!!! AAAAHHHH!!! *lapses into nerdgasm-induced coma*

"Ninja Turtles Thru The Ages!!"

Found this while perusing Toonzone.net (It's a really awesome site for animation news. Check it out!) and I came across this article about a recent preview event for the new Nickelodeon-based "TMNT" animated seriesThe best part of the article was the above picture that shows Ninja Turtle toys thru the last almost 25 years! I had some of these at one point or another. Wish I would've held onto them a little better!

I am actually looking forward to this new show. Having seen the new character designs and knowing who is voicing each of the 'Heroes In A Half-Shell', I can honestly say that this series could be really kick ass!

So, No 'YO JOE" 'Til Next Year?! Uh-oh!!

In the infinite @%$#-ing wisdom of Hollywood, the forth-coming action film "G.I. Joe - Retaliation" has been pushed back nearly A YEAR so it can be converted to 3D. Now, this is pretty much being done for over-seas markets, where 3D movies are big money. But, beyond that, I really think this a stupid move. I mean, the movie was only 36 days away! The movie was done, ready to go. I know it. You know it. So, don't be surprised in the film magically appears online in the next month or so.

The summer movie season is a huge money maker for film companies, so to push back what would have been a potentially huge film is already a bone-headed move. And I don't even want to think of what kind of bull Paramount piled up to get all the parties involved (Skydance Productions, MGM and Hasbro) to let this happen. I am especially perplexed that Hasbro has let this go through. I mean, the potential losses in toy sales,  marketing and media promos is staggering to say the least. I was actually looking forward to picking up some of the toys, specifically the Rock/Roadblock & Bruce Willis/Joe Colton action figures.

OH, I almost forgot to mention that when "G.I. Joe - Retaliation" DOES reach theatres next year, it's going up against "The Host", a film based on Stephanie Myers' other book series. That's right! John McClane & The Rock are going up against the creator of "Twilight" & her legion of slavishly devoted 'tween fans/minions. I weep for their children.

I was really looking forward to this movie for two reasons. One was that the first film was weak sauce (and I mean the weakest of sauce) in it's depiction of the franchise. Second reason was, based on the trailers, "Retaliation" looked to be a big, dumb and fun summer blockbuster, just like the movies of my youth. Ninjas, explosions and Cobra Commander. OH MY!

So, in summation, I would like to express my opinion of this monumentally stupid decision thusly:

Yes, indeed. Go fuck yourself, Hollywood!

"Hey You Guys, TOM Is BACK!"

Eventually one's prayers are answered because it was announced today that Cartoon Network is bring back it's TOONAMI block of programming after a 4 year rest! Hells Yeah! TOONAMI was my introduction to so many awesome anime series, such as "Cowboy Bebop", "Outlaw Star" and my personal fave, "Gundam Wing". I can almost hear the choir of angels now...

But you may be tempted to say "uh, JT, we don't have Cartoon Network in Canada." I beg to differ, mon frere, because we does so! Cartoon Network - Canada will go active on July 4th, 2012, which also happens to be THIS nerd's birthday! Hehehehehe, what a wonderful birthday gift. Thank you, God!

"Oh Hai, Green Arrow"

After a 5 year love affair on "Smallville", the CW (that unholy union of the beloved WB network and UPN) has picked up "Arrow", a new TV series about Oliver Queen/Green Arrow to debut this fall. And I have to say I am really looking forward to this show. Aside from Spider-man & Superman, one of my favorite heroes growing up was Green Arrow. Sorry, Hawkeye. The concept of a guy fighting crime with nothing more that a bow and tricks arrows seemed so insane to me a kid. But the idea of one man fighting to maker a difference with only his skill and his will (heh, rhyme!) was something that has always appealed to me. And the inclusion of GA on "Smallville" was one of the things I loved about that series. Well, that and Erica Durance as Lois Lane, but that is besides the point.

There's just one thing that this show needs to make it perfect ....

Aaaaw yeah, that's what I'm talking about!

"Happy STAR WARS Day!"

"Authentic Geek" would like to wish a Happy "May the 4th" to one and all! Celebrate this day by watching the Original Trilogy, wearing your Jedi robes/housecoat to the store or practising your Yoda-speak. I'm going to begin the celebration by watching Darth Vader totally school Hitler in a rap battle! See you next week!!

"Yessir, I Like It!"

Did you know that the Internet has rules? Oh yeah, they exist. For example, Rule 63 states "For any given male character, there is a female version of that character."

         Y'know something?! I love Rule 63!
